[휴목사의 튀는 영어]
한-영식으로 영어하기란: 소리 내어 여러 번 반복할 것. 암기가 아니라 반복이다. 신앙 공동체의 주요 습관은 지속적으로 예수를 따르는 것이다 The main habit of a faith community is to keep following Jesus. 하지만 그것에 한 가지 특별한 방법이 있다 But there is one particular method in it. 다른 말로하면， 우리는 주위의 사람들을 사랑하고 섬김으로써 예수를 따르는 것이다 In other words， we follow Jesus by loving and serving those around us.
프랑스의 Le Chambon이라는 작은 마을의 주민들이 그러한 모범을 보여주었다. The people of a little village called Le Chambon in France， had shown the kind of example. 그들은 2차 세계 대전 중 마을의 유대인들을 나찌로부터 숨겨주었다 They hid their Jews from the Nazis during the WWII. 전쟁 후에 어떤 이가 그 마을 사람들을 인터뷰하기 위해 그곳으로 갔다 Someone went there to interview people in the village after the war. 그는 무엇이 그들을 영웅 같이 만들었는가를 알아내고 싶었다 He wanted to find out what had made them like heroes.
마침내 그는 주민들을 영웅으로 한데 결합시킨 하나의 요소를 발견했다 He finally discovered the one factor that united them as heroes. 그것은 주민들이 매주일 그들의 작은 교회에 출석했었다는 것이다 It was their attendance at their little church every Sunday. 마을 사람들은 매 주일 트로크미 목사닝의 설교를 들었다 The town people heard the sermons of Pastor Trochme every Sunday. 시간이 지나면서 그들은 습관적으로 예수의 제자들과 같이 변하였다 Over time， they became like Jesus' followers by habit. 그리고 그들이 예수의 제자들로 행동해야 할 시간이 왔을 때 And when it came time for them to act as Jesus' followers， 즉， 그들의 마을에 독일 나찌군들이 왔던 날 the day the Nazis came to town， 그들은 조용히 그들이 들어왔던 것을 행동하였던 것이다 they quietly did what they had heard.
한 노파는 나찌가 그녀의 집을 수색하러 왔을 때 심장마비에 걸린 척 행동하였다 One old woman faked a heart attack when the Nazis came to search her house. 노파는 후에 이렇게 말했다 Later she said， 목사님은 우리에게 늘 한 가지를 가르쳐 주셨어요 Pastor always taught us one thing. '예수께서 당신을 위해 하신 일을 당신도 남을 위해 하시오 Do for others what Jesus did for you.' 난 그저 예수께서 날 구해주셨듯이 나도 내 집에 숨어 있는 유대인을 구해주고 싶었던 거예요 I just wanted to save the Jew in my place as Jesus saved me.
예수를 좇는 사람들로 우리의 매일의 삶의 주요 습관이 무엇이어야 하는가 What should be our main habit in our daily life as Jesus' followers? 예수께서 당신을 위해 무엇을 하였는가 What did Jesus do for you? 그것을 타인에게 행하면 당신은 언제나 예수를 따르는 자가 될 것이다 Do it for others and you will be always His follower.
